Black ice! – Skid control training courses save lives

The roads are still dry at the moment. But soon, black ice and slush will be turning Swiss roads into a potentially lethal hazard. What should one do when the wheels start slipping and the car begins to slide? Not even experienced drivers are prepared for such extreme situations. Luckily, there is the skid control training school in Regensdorf (ASSR). With special vehicles, you can learn how to regain control of your car in a dangerous situation. «Zumba» – have fun burning calories

Are you one of the last few who haven’t heard of «Zumba»? The new dance sport is taking over Switzerland. «Zumba» is a mixture of aerobics and Latin-American dances such as the merengue or salsa. The Migros Club School now also offers the new trend sport which will burn off those excess pounds – and is fun at the same time. The courses are running so well that the Migros Club School is donating the profits from the Zumba courses to the Esperanza Foundation. The foundation aims to fulfil the secret wishes of seriously ill children in order to try to improve their will to live.

Brigitte Fontaine – the avant-garde lady appears in Geneva

Some people are born for freedom: they don't let the terms shame and fear bother them. One of these people is the avant-garde artist Brigitte Fontaine. The French poet and singer is seventy-two years old. And society has not managed to make her any less non-conformist over all these years. Fontaine is comical and quick-witted – and is not about to give up her foolery just because of her age. On 6 December, she reads from her books, «Nouvelles de l’exil», «L’Inconciliabule» and «Portrait de l’artiste en déshabillé de soie» at the Théâtre Forum Meyrin. And she will most certainly include a few musical highlights too.

Fabio Biondi – Migros Culture Percentage honours baroque music.

Fabio Biondi is a specialist in dusting off the forgotten musical works from the baroque period. He is a pioneer in tackling old music with a historical approach and bringing it to life with antiquated instruments. Together with the mezzo-soprano Marina de Liso and the Ensemble Europe Galante, he has successfully lifted musical treasures from the works of Georg Friedrich Handel, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and Antonio Brioschi. He is appearing with his ensemble on 10 December in the «Victoria Hall» in Geneva as part of the Migros Culture Percentage Classics series.

«Le Prix» – an unborn novel wins the «Grand Prix culturel Migros»

The 32-year-old author Annette Rychner has hit the jackpot. The Migros Culture Percentage Neuchâtel-Fribourg awarded her this year's «Grand Prix culturel Migros» – and 50,000 Swiss francs! Her manuscript impressed the jury. In a ten-page summary, she outlined her project, a novel with the provisional, but appropriate title «Le Prix». She revealed that the story is about ambition and success and the question as to what drives people. Thanks to the prize money she has won, she is now able to concentrate fully on her writing for a year. She already knows where her novel will be set: in a lighthouse in Brittany.

«M-Aktion» – Migros rewards its Cooperative members

The German-speaking Migros Cooperatives reward their members. Members of the Cooperatives can benefit from reduced prices for various locations and excursions: for example, reduced admission fees to zoos, art galleries and museums. Also, the tickets for the mountain transport systems are cheaper with the vouchers. Those interested can collect the «M-Aktion» voucher book at the customer service desk at any Migros branch. But don't forget to take your member ID card with you!

Migros Culture Percentage Classics: cancellation of the extra concert with Jon Lord in the KKL

Jon Lord, founder of the Deep Purple band and pioneer of the mixture of rock and classics, has been diagnosed with cancer. His eagerly awaited concert on 26 October in the KKL with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra has therefore been cancelled. Mischa Damev, director of the Migros Culture Percentage Classics, is deeply saddened: “Countless classical music and rock fans, as well as Migros Culture Percentage as the organiser, have been looking forward to this unusual concert evening with one of the greatest pioneers of rock music and crossover. The concert programme is so directly organised to suit the artist that we do not wish to offer an alternative for this evening.  We deeply regret having to cancel the concert, and tickets which have already been purchased will be refunded. We wish the great musician, Jon Lord, all the best in his battle against his illness.”

In the ballet workout, the athletic exercises and movements used in classical ballet are implemented for a comprehensive fitness training programme. With its «Green Gourmet» cookery book, Migros has launched a real bestseller: over 200,000 copies of this culinary-ecological collection of recipes have already been sold. And now, the «Green Gourmet» is used in all basic cookery courses offered by the Migros Club School. In the courses «Kochen mit Green-Gourmet» (Cooking with the Green Gourmet), the participants learn how to quickly and simply turn seasonal ingredients into tasty treats for the palate. The courses are divided into basic level, for less experienced cooks, and intermediate level, where more demanding meals are prepared.
